6-Hour Weighted Race

RACE DAY INSTRUCTIONS

Arrival & Parking

Camp Guilrock
531 Beville Rd. Reidsville NC 27320

Weighted racers should not enter the gates before 6:30 AM, and only then if arriving with a 12-Hour runner.

We strongly suggest delaying your arrival until 7:00 AM or later if possible.

  • Gate code: See Email

  • Follow signs to the race setup area at the Lakeside Pavilion (turn left on the road and follow it to the event site).

  • Do not park on the road. Race staff will direct you to designated parking areas. Look for signs and volunteers.

Check-In

Check-in begins at 8:01 AM.

Your registration Swag Bag will include:

  • Race Bib (must be visible at all times on course)

  • Race Passport

  • Ziplock bag (to protect your passport if weather turns wet)

  • LMNT samples

If you responded to the T-shirt email, your shirt will be in your swag bag.
If not, you may pick one up at the check-in table. Size not guaranteed.

You will need to have your bag weighed prior to the race.  Check-in is a perfect time to do so!  This will be the first “Going Out” weight check. (YES, we will need to record this in your Race Passport.)  There will be another weight check when you complete each lap, the “Coming In” check.  The lesser of the two checks will be the official weight used for that lap’s score.

Tent Setup

Tents may be set up:

  • Near the Lakeside Pavilion

  • Across the road near the Bath House

Do not set up tents on any part of the course. If you do, you will be required to move them.

Race Start

  • Race begins at 10:00 AM sharp.

  • Pre-race briefing will take place approximately 15 minutes prior to start time.

Attendance is strongly encouraged, as any last-second updates will be addressed at that time.

How the 6-Hour Weighted Race Works

All racers will begin the course clockwise at 10:00 AM.

You must have:

  • Your bib visible

  • Your Race Passport on your person

You will complete as many laps as possible within the 6-hour time limit.

The race ends at 4:00 PM.
If you are still out on a lap when time expires, that lap will not count.

Weigh-In / Scoring Process

At the completion of each lap:

  1. Report to the Scale.

  2. Remove your pack for weighing. (We’ve had a question as to if a weighted vest is okay to use. The answer is YES. You can carry whatever you want— a ruck, a weighted vest, an oversized purse, a sandbag, a full bucket, or even a kitchen sink. Whatever you carry, you must not drag it, it must be carried, and it must be able to be weighed. Our scale has a large hook— so think large carabiner-compatible hook-up. )

  3. Hand your Race Passport to race staff.

  4. Staff will record your pack weight in your passport. (This is the CHECK-IN weight.)

While in the transition area, you may:

  • Add or remove weight

  • Refuel

  • Rest

  • Change clothing

Before starting your next lap, your pack will be weighed again. (This is the CHECK-OUT weight.)  Staff will record the weight, return your Race Passport to you, and send you on your way.

Important Scoring Rule

Your score is based on the amount of weight carried for the full lap.

We will use the lower of your check-out and check-in weights for that lap.

That weight (in pounds) will be multiplied by the number of miles completed to calculate your Koz Units (Kz).

Highest total Kz at the end of the day wins.

NOTE: Only FULL LAPS will count for the Heaviest Lap Awards!

About Koz Units (Kz)
“Koz Units” are named after the race format’s creator, Olivier Kozlowski, who has successfully hosted three events using this format, with a fourth scheduled for April.

Our event is the first to bring this format onto a non-paved, non-flat course — adding an entirely new layer of strategy and difficulty

Direction Changes

After 3 hours, outgoing racers will be directed to go counter-clockwise on the course.

Weighted racers and runners are on different direction schedules.
Please follow race staff instructions and do not attempt to redirect other participants.

Deciding You’re Done

If you choose to finish before 4:00 PM:

  • Inform race staff.

  • Your score will be finalized.

  • A ceremonial bell will be rung.

Once the bell rings, you are done.
Not just done. Done-done. No takebacks.

You may rest, recover, and cheer — but you may not return to the course.

Medals & Awards

You will receive your race medal upon completion.

Awards will be presented dynamically as placements are confirmed. Standings may shift while other racers are still accumulating laps and Kz.

The Final Hour

During the final hour of racing, participants checking in will have two options:

  • Attempt another full lap (~3 miles), or

  • Take a shorter, marked route to accumulate additional points before time expires.

As with full laps, no credit will be given for distance completed after the official time limit. Only your last official check-in will count.

This event is about strength, strategy, and smart execution.

Carry wisely. Move with purpose.
We’ll see what you’re made of at 10:00 AM.
